16.15 - Hedging Workshop:  How to use commodity exchanges to control metal price risk and protect profit margins

Presented by Christopher Stobart, Managing Consultant, CRU Strategies

Recent experience in the nickel market has reminded us that metal prices can fluctuate violently and unpredictably. The nickel price has ranged from $4.00/lb up to $24.00/lb and back to $11.00/lb in the past five years.  Fluctuations in price on this scale have a major impact on the profit margins of nickel producers, stainless steel producers and other consumers of nickel.  Forward contracts on metal exchanges (such as the London Metal Exchange) can be used to control this risk, and secure profit margins.

This workshop will provide an introduction to the use of forward contracts on commodity exchanges, and show how nickel and stainless steel producers can use these contracts to protect themselves against price risk.

For further information on this free Hedging Workshop please contact CRU Events on tel: +44 20 7903 2402 or email: crumetalsevents@crugroup.com
