CRU's Aluminium Cost Service 2014, published Thursday 28th August 2014, reports that declining aluminium smelting costs and high premiums supported smelters in 2013. CRU Managing Consultant Kelly Driscoll writes "Low LME prices resulted in the closure of a significant volume of high cost smelting capacity in 2013 and, combined with falling raw materials prices, primary aluminium smelting costs thus decreased."
