Juan von Gernet
Juan joined CRU in July 2007, having previously worked for a boutique wealth management firm in the city of London. His time there proved useful, as in provided a good working knowledge of financial markets, and in particular, the various investment vehicles available to both private and institutional investors.
His initial role in CRU was in the company’s consulting arm, CRU Strategies, during which time he focused on wide ranging single client assignments mainly across the ferrous and non-ferrous metals industries. This included market outlooks for bankable feasibility studies, strategy realignments for both private and governmental organisations and support in contract negotiation. His contribution to valuation focused projects, in particular, led to his appointment as the sub head of ferrous valuation.
Although it was not until 2010 that he was drawn into the fertilizer industry, when assisted a Canadian junior potash mining company with its prefeasibility study, the area quickly became his speciality. He has since played an important role in a number of IPOs and capital raisings, primarily in the phosphate and potash industries. In May 2011, Juan made the switch to CRU Fertilizers, and is now leading CRU’s research on the phosphate rock, fertilizer and feed markets. He has also contributed to a number of reports published by CRU, including: the EGAN, urea, potash, industrial phosphates, sulphuric acid and sulphur ten year outlooks.
Juan holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree in Economics and Business Management from the Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He is also a member of Min South.
