You will be responsible for primary and secondary market research to create accurate estimates and forecasts of operating costs by mine and project in order to facilitate in-depth analysis of global competitiveness, the cost structure of the industry and the impact of costs on prices. As an Analyst, you will communicate your views in written form, demonstrating base insights, analysis, prices and forecasts on a robust and transparent set of methodologies. You will need to ensure that you can keep up to date with market trends and industry developments as well as validate and continually improve production and trade data.
You will also actively participate in the development and improvement of our analytical products, contributing to the annual Copper Cost Report, the quarterly Copper Cost Review and support analysts covering the Lead/Zinc and Nickel Cost Reports.
You will undertake external client engagement, developing and maintaining relationships with a wide range of market participants ensuring you provide market-leading customer intimacy.
For the right person, this role will provide you the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of the Base Metals market as well as contributing to CRU’s market-leading publications as part of a well-established team.
Undergraduate degree in Economics, Natural Sciences (Mining and/or Geology) or in a similar field with a minimum grade of 2:1
Fluent written and spoken English
Goal-oriented, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm; able to operate efficiently, effectively and professionally within a fast paced, dynamic and results driven business environment
Proven analytical skills with the ability to critically analyse data and identify trends and key drivers
Good understanding of the metals industry and ability to quickly grasp the key technical aspects of base metal mining and processing
Strong quantitative background and a creative thinker based on a robust approach to data/modelling
Ability to construct a compelling narrative and have the confidence to express and defend position clearly
Excellent numeracy skills, ability to handle large data sets and understand mathematical concepts to best interpret and manipulate data
Masters in Economics or a similar field is desirable
Evidence of commercial awareness would also be an advantage, particularly an understanding of commodities markets or relevant work experience.
Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
CRU operates on a global basis so the jobholder may be expected to communicate across offices and time zones. Some business travel outside of Chile may also be required.
