CRU’s market-leading Steel Team is seeking a talented individual to work in our steel raw materials team in China.

You will have the opportunity to actively participate in the development and improvement of our analytical products, taking responsibility for the analysis of the Chinese steel raw materials market which inputs into all of the Steel Raw Materials team products.

You will be responsible for primary and secondary market research, working closely with product editors and other regional market experts. You will analyse market fundamentals, forecast and communicate your views in written form, demonstrating insights, analysis, prices and forecasts on a robust and transparent set of methodologies. You will need to ensure that you can keep up to date with market trends and industry developments as well as validate and continually improve production and trade data.

You will also undertake significant external client engagement, developing and maintaining relationships with a wide range of market participants ensuring you provide market-leading customer intimacy. You will also build a network of contacts within China and further afield to obtain primary research data.

Essential Criteria
Undergraduate degree such as Economics, Natural Sciences (Mining and/or Geology), Mathematics or in a similar field with a minimum grade of 2:1

Fluent written and spoken English and Chinese

Proven depth of knowledge, ideally of the coal and/or mining industries

Strong quantitative background and a creative thinker based on a robust approach to data/modelling

Goal-oriented, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm; able to operate efficiently, effectively and professionally within a fast paced, dynamic and results driven business environment

An analytical mind-set and able to get to grips quickly with the intricacies and complexities of the economics and data that drive our business and strategy

Excellent team ethic and able to build strong interpersonal relationships

Demonstrable experience in statistical and data analysis

Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Desirable Criteria
Further degree (Master’s degree with merit and/or PhD) would be desirable

Additional Information
CRU operates on a global basis so the jobholder may be expected to communicate across offices and time zones. The jobholder must expect to travel 10-20% of working time.
