CRU Consulting is the consultancy arm of the CRU Group and delivers bespoke projects to a wide section of clients in the mining, metals and fertilisers industries. Many of our projects are related to valuation and strategy decisions faced by our clients. We provide value to our clients through accurate data, insightful analysis and timely delivery.

Working alongside industry experts, as a Consultant you will play a key role within our consulting division, providing in-depth and insightful analysis on a wide range of exciting and confidential global projects. For the right person, this position will provide the opportunity to become part of a dynamic, supportive and truly international team and provide unrivalled commodity exposure and experience.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

As a Consultant within CRU you will work on a wide range of projects across our four commodity desks (Base metals, Fertilizers, Ferrous, and Multi-commodity) in order to become familiar, both with a range of commodity markets and the way CRU Consulting execute and manage projects. You will work within a succession of project teams, reporting to and receiving guidance and feedback from the Project Manager and/or Project Director. You will increasingly have the opportunity to delegate parts of your work to Research Associates and Interns. Skills developed include report writing, data analysis, delegation, advanced Excel skills. All of our work is project-based, and project deadlines tend to be for the short-to-medium term delivery.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to project planning and managing your own work effectively
  • Designing report sections and developing necessary content using data from within CRU and other sources
  • Taking responsibility for finding data, undertaking confident and accurate manipulation, consolidation and analysis of this information
  • Recognizing and understanding trends in data, converting your analysis into a written section which draw clear conclusions
  • Developing your client exposure when working on a given project within the project team
  • Managing and delegating certain elements of project scope
  • Sharing IP and working effectively with CRU Analysis

 Minimum Required Qualifications

  • A numerate degree (first or 2:1) from a top British university, or an equivalent level qualification from a leading university outside of the UK
  • Further degree (Master’s degree with merit and/or PhD)
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Knowledge & Experience

  • Solid experience working in an area related to commodities, mining and metals and/or energy and agriculture
  • Strong background in maths and/or economics
  • Advanced knowledge of Powerpoint and Excel
  • Exposure working across multi-locations with different cultures

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent writing skills, numerate and analytical, able to critically analyse data and identify trends and key drivers
  • Excellent attention to detail balanced with a proven track record of working to tight deadlines
  • Inquisitive and flexible mind to provide a unique understanding of our markets
  • Confident communication skills, including comfort in talking with industry participants at all levels
  • Willingness to embrace change and be a team player
  • Willingness to travel – the jobholder must expect to travel 10-20% of working time
  • Approachable, with a positive and collaborative attitude and a genuine interest in developing with the team to be the best in the industry
