CRU Consulting is the consultancy arm of the CRU Group and delivers approximately 200 projects per year across a wide section of clients in the mining, metals, fertilisers and chemicals industry.

Many of our projects are related to strategic decisions faced by our clients. We provide value to our clients through accurate data, insightful analysis and timely delivery. Working alongside industry experts, you will play a key role within our consulting division, providing in-depth and insightful knowledge on a wide range of exciting and often confidential global projects.

For the right person, this position will provide the opportunity to become part of a dynamic, supportive and truly international team and provide unrivalled commodity exposure and experience.The successful candidate will work with project managers within CRU in the development and delivery of our varied consulting projects across our business. However, each opportunity is different and so the exact role will vary depending on your experience and the work we have at any one time. The ability to provide intellectual leadership, develop client relationships and manage a team will be the keys to your success in this role.

Intellectual Leadership

Your understanding of the metals, mining and energy markets will be significant and your role within the CRU Consulting will be pivotal as the company embarks upon its next phase of growth:

Insight – the candidate will have a strong quantitative background and will be a creative thinker based on a robust approach to data/modelling.

Knowledge management and transfer – the candidate must be cognisant of the importance of sharing knowledge and ideas in a constructive and supportive way. It is expected that the candidate will have a strong mentoring role for some of our more talented and creative juniors.

Thought leadership - the candidate will be faced with many challenging questions from our clients. In some cases, this will be for work that falls adjacent or beyond the existing research in CRU. The candidate must be flexible and open to profitably developing new areas of research as the market requires.

Business development and sales

Develop successful client relationships, and promote CRU consultancy services to a wide range of potential clients.

Using own leads, and leads provided by other CRU business units, identify and develop project assignments. Contribute ideas for business development to the CRU management team, and departmental marketing meetings.

Negotiation of project contracts, with clarity on scope, timescale and value, to ensure that projects are delivered profitably, and to the complete satisfaction of the customer.

Present and follow up projects, and resolve any queries raised by the client.

Project and staff management

Act as “project manager” in some projects, outlining the strategy for conducting the research, securing adequate resource from within CRU, and other CRU business units, and defining and communicating the objectives of the project to all involved.

Contribute to the project directly by managing consultants and undertaking research and writing content.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience in mining and metals
  • Fluency in Spanish would be advantageous in this role
  • A thought leader with respect to the economics of commodities and supply chains.
  • Persuasive with a desire to engage / train / mentor to team members.
  • Creative in the application of first principles to problems and mindful of the time constraints of a business environment.
  • Approachable, with a positive attitude and a genuine interest in developing the team to be the best in the industry – delivering value to our clients and creating value for shareholders.
  • Internationally mobile, for example willing to travel, and culturally aware.
  • Enthusiastic regarding delivering the highest quality projects to each and every client.
  • Responsive to client needs but commercially minded.
  • Leads by example in terms of work ethic and commitment to exceeding clients expectations.

Qualifications

Essential

  • The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree from a top university, plus a postgraduate degree.
  • Solid experience either as a consultant in the metals and mining sector or in a business within the sector, for example metals producer, Manufacturers association, trading companies, NGO etc.
  • Fluent written and spoken English (every candidate will complete a written analysis test)
  • You must have proven skills in economic analysis of commodity markets, including the use of maths.
