CRU is a global company that undertakes analysis and consultancy of commodities markets. We are looking to offer a highly motivated Economist, a three-month internship in our Economics team in London. As a recent Master’s graduate (or PhD student), you will bring the latest economic thinking to our team. Your research project will add value to the business, by helping us produce a China nowcast that draws on both published data and proprietary data. At the end of the project you will produce a project report for others to take forward.
The Economics team are responsible for producing a global forecast and an economic story to support that view. The team’s brand is ‘where macroeconomics meets commodities. Thus, our focus is on linking developments in the wider economy to sectors and countries that matter to our clients in the global mining, metals and fertilizer industries.
Candidates must be available to start in September or October. Please only apply for this role if you have an Undergraduate degree in Economics with a minimum grade of 2:1, and already have a Master’s in Economics, or expecting to complete a Master’s in Economics in Summer 2019.

- Your primary objective will be to complete a research project and help the team on a variety of tasks
- The research project involves working with CRUs Chief Economist to create a real time activity indicator for China. You will be expected to write a literature review on the topic, collect the relevant data, and produce a simple econometric model. You will explain your view through engaging written reports, and presentations to your colleagues
- You will also use your data and analysis skills to support the team as required – e.g. on data collection, preparing charts and presentations and improving spreadsheets
