CRU Consulting is the consultancy arm of the CRU Group and delivers approximately 200 projects/yr across a wide section of clients in the mining, metals and energy industries. We provide value to our clients through accurate data, insightful analysis and timely delivery. We are looking for a Principle Consultant to play a key role within our consulting division, providing in-depth and insightful knowledge on a wide range of exciting and often confidential global projects. This position provides the opportunity to become part of a dynamic, supportive and truly international team and provide unrivalled commodity exposure and experience. The successful candidate will work with project managers within CRU C in the development and delivery of our varied consulting projects. However, each opportunity is different and so the exact role will vary depending on your experience and the work we have at any one time. The ability to provide intellectual leadership, develop client relationships and manage a team will be the keys to your success in this role.


  • Understand customer requirements and to look for opportunities to communicate with them
  • Develop successful client relationships and promote CRU Consultancy service to a wide range of potential clients
  • Act as Project Manager on certain projects, outlining the strategy for conducting the research, securing adequate resources from within Consulting and the wider business
  • Define and communicate the objectives of the project to all involved
  • Contribute to the project directly by managing consultants, undertaking research and writing content
  • Use your own leads and leads provided by other CRU business units, to identify and develop project assignments
  • Contribute ideas for business development to the CRU Consulting management team, and departmental marketing meetings
  • Negotiate project contracts, with clarity on scope, timescale and value to ensure that projects are delivered profitably and to the complete satisfaction of the customer



We are looking for great people with the following attributes:

  • A bachelor’s degree, in a relevant field e.g., Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology, Geophysics, or a related field
  • 8 or more years’ experience in mining and metals sector or in a business within the sector, for example metals producers, manufacturers association, trading companies, NGO etc.
  • Strong background in maths and/or economics
  • A thought leader with respect to the economics of commodities and proven commercial experience in the application of new thought to business issues
  • Strong quantitative background and a creative thinker based on a robust approach to data/modelling
  • Experience of managing and leading a team, preferably within a consulting environment
  • Intellectual leadership with an exceptional understanding of the metals, mining and energy markets
  • Exposure working across multi-locations with different cultures
