The Opportunity

Our market leading Steel team are looking for a talented individual with a strong understanding of supply/ demand fundamentals analysis to join our India team as a Steel Costs Analyst. You will support CRU's analysis of the Indian steel value chain focusing on domestic Indian steelmaking raw materials markets and their interface with global markets. You will also support cost modelling and related analysis of the Indian steel and steelmaking raw materials assets. Additionally, you will support CRU's Steel Costs Service on a global basis in cost modelling, asset benchmarking and related research.

To be successful in the role, you will have a top degree from a leading university in a relevant field e.g. geology, engineering, metallurgy or commerce/economics. Ideally, you will have knowledge of the mining and steel sectors in India however this is not essential as you may have knowledge of other similar sectors such as chemical process industries, energy, logistics or non-ferrous metals. You must be able to work to strict deadlines and have excellent attention to details as well as having excellent communication skills especially in both written and verbal English.

We are looking for candidates with the right to work in India for this role and we are unfortunately unable to accept applications from candidates who require sponsorship. As a global Company we work across multiple time zones, so a degree of flexibility will be needed.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting data collection, model updating/development and analysis of supply and costs across the Indian steel value chain (iron ore, metallurgical coal, coke and steel) as well as the Steel Costs Service
  • Provide the India analysis for relevant CRU products
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and market participants domestically and abroad
  • Support existing clients with navigation and interpretation of relevant Analysis products through calls and presentations
  • Support and work collaboratively within the Coal, Costs and Ferroalloys team, Steel Analysis team, CRU Analysis and Consulting team
  • Provide clear demonstrations of the capability of the Cost Services to prospective clients in support of the sales effort

Essential Criteria

About you – What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • A top degree from a leading university in a relevant field e.g. geology, engineering, metallurgy or commerce/economics or similar.
  • Proven analytical skills (i.e. ability to critically analyse data and identify trends and key drivers).
  • The ability to construct and articulate a well-reasoned and logical argument, evidenced by supporting data and with clearly articulated assumptions.
  • First class communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • An ability to individually work to strict deadlines and also to deliver products, which include contributions from several analysts, to strict deadlines.
  • An analytical mind-set and able to get to grips quickly with the intricacies and complexities of the economics and data that drive our business and strategy.
  • Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Fluent written and spoken English
