This position provides the opportunity to apply your detailed understanding of the metals, mining and energy markets to developing and delivering projects within CRU Consulting.

The role will require you to use your strong quantitative and qualitative background and robust approach to research and data analysis, in combination with creative problem solving, to addressing our clients’ problems.

You will be constantly faced with new and challenging questions from our clients. You must be flexible and open to profitably developing both existing and new areas of research and to staying relevant to our clients. The role will require a strong commercial focus.

Among other activities you will:

  • Develop successful client relationships
  • Promote CRU’s capabilities in conferences, events and client meetings
  • Identify new client leads and develop project assignments
  • Act as “project manager” in some projects, outlining the strategy for conducting the research, securing adequate resource from within CUC, and other CRU business units, and defining and communicating the objectives of the project to all involved
  • Present and follow up projects, and resolve any queries from clients
  • Scope and negotiate project terms of reference, research strategies and contractual terms

Essential Criteria
The ideal candidate will have an top undergraduate degree from a well recognised university, plus a postgraduate degree.

5 to 7 years experience either as a consultant in the extractives sector or in related governmental or non governmental role. Candidates from manufacturing or materials focussed backgrounds are also welcome to apply. Those with less professional experience will also be considered at a commensurate grade.

A strong background in one or more of the following disciplines: maths, economics, extractives sector policy or material science

Fluent written and spoken English (every candidate will complete a written analysis test)

A thought leader with respect to markets, policies or technical aspect of commodities and proven experience in the application of new ideas to business or policy issues

Strong quantitative and qualitative background and a creative thinker based on a robust approach to research & data analysis

Experience of working across, and – where appropriate, across teams, preferably within a project orientated environment

Exposure to working across multi-locations with different cultures

Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Desirable Criteria
Management qualifications would be an advantage in this role

Additional Information
Direct line management responsibility will be limited initially, however for every project a team will need to be drawn from the global pool and directed to profitably deliver the work

CRU operates on a global basis so the jobholder must expect to communicate across offices and time zones

Some business travel outside of the UK will also be required
