CRU Consulting is the consultancy arm of the CRU Group. We deliver strategic analysis and insight to clients related to or involved in the mining, metals, technology metals and fertilisers industries. We provide value to our clients through clarity of communication, industry expertise, insightful analysis, accurate data and timely delivery.

Working alongside industry experts, you will play a key role within our Consulting division, developing new business, driving innovation and leading an established consulting team. For the right person, this position will provide the opportunity to become part of a dynamic, supportive and truly international team and provide unrivalled commodity exposure and experience.

The successful candidate will work with the project managers within CRU Consulting in the development and delivery of our varied consulting projects across our business. The ability to provide intellectual leadership and support innovation, develop client relationships and manage a team will be the keys to your success in this role.

The applicant be entitled to undertake full time work in CRU’s Pittsburgh office located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh, PA. While a hybrid working arrangement is offered, the candidate will be required to be based out of the Pittsburgh area and work in the Pittsburgh office a minimum of two days per week to engage as an active participant in the management and development of the Consulting team as well as project development & delivery.


The role of a Senior Consultant demonstrates exceptional skills in three key areas:


Intellectual leadership

o Innovation – use ideas from both outside and inside the business to generate new business opportunities within CRU Consulting

o Knowledge management and transfer – It is expected that the candidate will have a strong mentoring role in the team

o Insight – the candidate will have a strong quantitative background and will be a creative thinker, providing high value advice to our clients


Business Development and Sales

o Develop successful client relationships and promote CRU consultancy services to a wide range of potential clients. CRU operates on a global basis, and must be willing to travel 10-20% of working time (health and safety restrictions allowing)

o Using own leads, and leads provided by other CRU business units, identify and develop project assignments. Contribute ideas for business development to the CRU consulting management team, and departmental marketing meetings

o Negotiation of project contracts, with clarity on scope, timescale and value, to ensure that projects are delivered profitably, and to the complete satisfaction of the customer

o Present and follow up projects, and resolve any queries raised by the client



Project and Staff Management

o Act as “project director” or “senior advisor” in some projects, outlining the strategy for conducting the research, securing adequate resource from within CRU, and other CRU business units, and defining and communicating the objectives of the project to all involved

o When necessary, contribute to the project directly by research and writing content

o Manage and develop consultants through direct line management and also mentoring of other new managers in the team. We have an active development and appraisal system within CRUC and managing this process would be a primary responsibility


About You

• Relevant first degree (e.g. Engineering, Economics) with a minimum of 12 years experience in a related industry

• Graduate level degree preferred

• Project management experience including exposure to working across multi-locations with different cultures. Consulting related experience highly preferred

• Strong individualized management experience working with reports across a wide range of skills and knowledge levels

• Intellectual leadership with an exceptional understanding of the metals, mining and energy markets

• Proven experience in successful business development and marketing contributions

• Goal-oriented, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm; able to operate efficiently, effectively and professionally within a fast paced, dynamic and results driven business environment

• Ability to lead, influence and motivate others, develop and mentor members of the broader consultancy team and provide clear direction even in situations involving ambiguity and uncertainty

• Experience of project/team leadership and focus on quality

• Ability to discuss confidently with market participants and an inquisitive mind to obtain information that helps CRU Consulting provide a unique understanding to these markets

• Collect and analyse data and apply analytical methodologies to present information visually

• Prepare reports and proposals suitable for submission to prospective clients

• Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)

• Thorough organizational skills for client relationship tracking utilizing Salesforce

• Fluent written and spoken English
