David Coombs is Head of Copper, Consulting. He has over 25 years experience specialising in copper research and consultancy having led the Brook Hunt/Wood Mackenzie cost and competitiveness team for much of this period.

David joined CRU in October 2018 having consulted as an Associate over 2016 and 2017. For CRU he has provided M&A advisory and investment advice relating to the copper semis industry, and Expert Witness advisory in a metals valuation arbitration. As an independent consultant, David has provided consultancy related to the molybdenum, nickel, cobalt, zinc, lithium and tungsten industries.

David has worked in industry for Anglo American as a Metallurgical Engineer, Lundin Mining as Mining Economist - reporting to the COO instilling “the business of mining” across group assets, and more recently in the Klesch Group as an Exec in the M&A team sourcing and evaluating distressed debt opportunities.

David holds a BSc in Metallurgy from the University of Manchester and an MSc and DIC in Mineral Production Management from Imperial College, London. He is a Chartered Engineer.
