The Opportunity

Our market-leading Analysis division is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Analyst  to join the Aluminium team to lead and contribute to our market reports and provide insightful analysis and price discovery across primary, recycled metal and downstream products.

The successful individual will need to be fluent in English, with strong written and verbal skills. Having an analytical mind-set with the ability to get to grips quickly with the intricacies and complexities of the data that drive our business and strategy, will be key to the success of this role. The Senior Analyst will need to be comfortable and confident when speaking and presenting to market participants, and demonstrate diligence in workflow processes for price discovery, and capable of creating high quality, insightful industry analysis.

Reporting into the Lead Analyst for Primary & Recycled Metal, this role demands a high level of analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to forge a strong network of contacts and understand and deliver client value. The Senior Analyst must be able to work effectively and collaboratively in an international team of market analysts and deliver to tight deadlines. This is a great opportunity for a Senior Analyst with experience to deliver exceptional external client engagement and will provide the opportunity to become an integral part of a dynamic, supportive, and truly international team. Product management opportunities will also arise for the successful candidate.

We are looking for an individual that has a solid understanding of the wider Mining/Metals, or Energy industry. Having a strong quantitative background and being a creative thinker, based on a robust approach to data management and modelling will be highly beneficial in this role. Knowledge of other parts of the aluminium value chain would be a benefit for this role also.  

Candidates should be degree educated (Undergraduate and Masters) – The undergraduate degree (first or 2:1), should be from a top British university, or equivalent level qualification from a leading university outside of the UK. Qualifications will ideally be in Economics or another numerate discipline. The role will also require a level of international travel (Pandemic travel restrictions dependant), so candidates need to be comfortable with this. As a global Company we work across multiple time zones, so a degree of flexibility will be needed.

Responsibilities will include:


Product editorship, Knowledge, Data Analysis and Modelling

  • Product management and editorship within the portfolio of the Aluminium team’s products will be expected
  • Establish an informed and independent view of market trends and industry developments across the aluminium value chain, including both supply and demand trends
  • Validate and continually improve plant production data
  • Understand, maintain, and use existing models and processes to deliver insightful analytical content
  • Engage with the market to develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of aluminium markets
  • Help CRU's price discovery process by seeking to obtain prices of key aluminium products


  • Create and communicate data driven analysis of market developments and issues that are compelling, logical, and cohesive to senior industry executives

  • Excellent IT skills including the use of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Fluency in a Chinese language would be beneficial, although not essential
