Refocusing on steel and aluminium value chains, we analyse technology solution feasibility and the implications of the developing circular economy for ferrous and aluminium scrap markets. Key issues discussed include the potential impact on electricity prices from increased use of hydrogen-based steelmaking, adequacy of scrap supply in certain economies and meeting product quality requirements through scrap-based production technology improvements. CRU also highlights the gap between forecasted emissions generation and those required to meet temperature rise limitation scenarios.
