Financing the future: Investment in metals and market risks

This year’s event is titled Financing the Future: Impact and Opportunity in the Metals Industry, examining the role of finance in developing the industry to meet the basic material needs of economies reshaped by new technologies and geopolitics. The event will explore where risks and opportunities are emerging across regions and value chains, and how transparency, resilience and sustainability considerations are influencing investment decisions.

Session 1 of CRU Breakfast will set out the compelling long-term global case for investment in metals at the heart of the energy transition.

Despite clear demand signals, near-term investment has fallen short of what’s needed to build future supply. Countries with higher risk tolerances and defined industrial strategies – such as China – have stepped in to close this gap, forcing the rest of the world to make tough choices about their investment strategies.

At this inflection point, countries will need to balance resilience, affordability and sustainability in their supply chains to remain competitive. Those that navigate this trade-off effectively will be able to employ robust financing strategies to scale supply, processing and enabling technologies, creating significant growth opportunities. Session 1 will be closed out with a one-to-one fireside chat with a leading industry figure further exploring how investment in metals presents both opportunities and risks.

Session 2 will see our analysts delivering their much-anticipated market outlooks.

The outlooks will offer valuable insights into market trends and forecasts of LME metals. Whether it be the impacts of tariffs on demand and premia, how shifting policy is shaping markets or expectations for TC/RCs, our subject-matter experts will be on hand to guide you through the topics that really matter. An industry panel with key figures from across the world of commodities will round out the event building on discussion and hosting an audience Q&A.
