Asian battery companies go overseas: navigating the uncertainty and opportunities Image

Chinese, Korean, and Japanese battery supply chain companies are attempting to expand production overseas, spurred on by policy and other imperatives to localise.

However, they face a number of risks and challenges that could deter these investments, such as the higher cost of production, political uncertainty, and slowing demand growth in certain markets.

CRU will present meaningful analysis to guide participants through this uncertainty and help to seize opportunities in the battery value chain.

What we will cover:

  • How the 'EV chasm' can be crossed: reasons for slowdown in growth and when recovery can be expected.
  • Rise of protectionist and incentive policies such as US IRA, and strategies to navigate them.
  • Profitability, competitiveness, and shifting technology selection for battery supply chain players.
  • Lithium – When, and where, will producers react to growing inventories in the upstream?
  • Cobalt - Discussing the dynamics of cobalt in cathode materials and its role as a by-product in mining.
  • Nickel - Will supply cutbacks, Indonesian ore tightness, and stainless steel demand growth provide support for nickel prices?
