In September, CRU welcomed market participants and shared cross-commodity insight across Asia and North America through three events focused on the forces reshaping commodity markets and industrial supply chains.

From trade policy and decarbonisation to supply-chain realignment and changing automotive demand, each event brought together CRU experts and industry professionals to explore market developments across steel, aluminium, raw materials, thermal coal, wire and cable, and battery materials.

CRU Korea Cross-Commodity Seminar

Hosted in Seoul on 10 September, this seminar examined how geopolitical uncertainty, evolving trade policies and the energy transition are influencing steel, steelmaking raw materials and thermal coal markets in Korea and across Northeast Asia.

The seminar explored the short-term outlook for regional steel markets, the competitive implications of costs and carbon emissions, and developments in iron ore, metallurgical coal and thermal coal. Delegates also considered how global supply-chain shifts and decarbonisation are affecting Korea’s thermal coal demand.

CRU Automotive Briefing

CRU Automotive Briefing took place on 17 September in the Detroit Metropolitan Area, where delegates gained a cross-commodity perspective on the materials shaping automotive manufacturing.

The programme covered steel, aluminium, battery materials, and wire and cable, with presentations examining market dynamics, pricing and supply-chain developments. A subsequent roundtable explored common challenges and opportunities across automotive materials - including sourcing strategies, trade considerations, material substitution and the impact of current events on supply chains.

The event concluded with a networking lunch, providing attendees an opportunity to continue the discussion with industry peers and CRU experts.

CRU Aluminium and Wire and Cable Seminar

Held in Tokyo Kyobashi on 18 September, this half-day seminar delivered market intelligence across the aluminium and wire and cable value chains.

The aluminium programme considered volatility and structural change from bauxite and alumina through to primary aluminium, including the evolving influence of China on global supply, trade and price formation.

The wire and cable session focused on the factors influencing metallic cable markets, changing demand across end-use sectors and the outlook for the global optical fibre market.

CRU’s events bring market participants closer to the insight, data and expert perspectives needed to understand increasingly interconnected commodity markets. Speak with a CRU expert about market intelligence and upcoming events.
