At CRU, we love to actively contribute to the communities where we live and work. Recently, CRU teams in Singapore and Pittsburgh have been putting this commitment into action through meaningful volunteer work, and the impact has been inspiring.

Pittsburgh: Supporting our four-legged friends

Our Pittsburgh office has developed a wonderful partnership with Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh. Over the past several weeks, small teams of employees have regularly visited the shelter to lend a hand and support its vital work.

On the first visit in May, our volunteers focused on creating a cleaner, safer environment for the animals in the shelter's care. The team tackled outdoor maintenance by clearing the dogs' walking trails of debris, then moved inside to handle laundry washing toys, towels, blankets, beds, harnesses, and leashes. They also cleaned windows throughout the facility, giving the dogs a clearer view of the world outside.

In June, volunteers collected trash, sorted donations, and restocked shelves to keep operations running smoothly. A particular highlight was creating treat enrichments for both dogs and catswhen animals chew, lick or forage, their brains release endorphins that help relieve stress, anxiety, boredom and loneliness.

Singapore: Fuelling community compassion

While Pittsburgh's volunteers were working with animals, CRU teams in Singapore were channelling their energy into Krsna's Free Meals an organisation that has served over 10 million free meals to people in need.

Despite Singapore's intense heat, our team showed up. Volunteers split into two groups to maximise efficiency chopping vegetables, storing prepared produce and thoroughly cleaning the prep area. It was fast-paced and physically demanding work, but as one team member reflected, "seeing how a community comes together like this was amazing."

Walking away with sore arms, stronger team bonds and a profound sense of gratitude, our Singapore volunteers gained first-hand insight into the dedication required to serve a community at scale.

These efforts represent more than just a day away from the office. Whether it's caring for animals in need or supporting food security initiatives, our teams understand that meaningful work extends beyond our industry.

We're grateful to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh and Krsna's Free Meals for welcoming us and allowing us to contribute; and we're proud of our employees for stepping up to make a real difference.
