Premier sulphur event to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from 9–11 June 2026
24 April 2026, London: For the first time in its 12-year history, CRU, the global commodities experts, is proud to announce the expansion of its premier sulphur event, MEScon, beyond the Middle East, in partnership with UniverSUL Consulting. The MEScon Connect: Central Asia event will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from 9–11 June 2026.
This strategic expansion brings the renowned MEScon programme to the world's second-largest sulphur-producing region. Central Asia plays an increasingly vital role in the global sulphur value chain, not only through its significant production capacity but also its crucial logistical links to major downstream markets like China.
The 2026 programme will feature a strong mix of sessions covering the entire sulphur value chain, with a special focus on the operational, technical, and innovation themes shaping the industry today. Delegates can expect practical case studies, performance improvement insights, and discussions on new technologies and emerging solutions.
Nicola Coslett, the CEO of CRU Communities, commented:
"Expanding MEScon to Central Asia is a pivotal step in connecting the global sulphur community. We are excited to create a platform in this vital region that fosters innovation, addresses unique logistical challenges, and drives the industry forward through collaboration and shared expertise."
Angela Slavens, Founder of UniverSUL Consulting and MEScon Co-Founder, commented:
“Harkening back to the first MEScon (then MESPON) in 2014, the primary objective was to bring local operators together to share experiences and best practices for the benefit of their unique facilities, and the industry as a whole.
At that time, the Middle East was emerging as the world’s largest sulphur-producing region, with some of the largest and most high-profile sour gas and sulphur facilities beginning operation. As the community grew, Central Asia became an important part of the MEScon dialogue, with similarly large and complex developments. The technical challenges across both regions are closely aligned, so bringing MEScon to Central Asia is a natural next step to deepen those exchanges and strengthen the community.”
Peter Harrisson, Principal, Sulphur & Sulphuric Acid Markets at CRU, commented:
"After many successful years in Abu Dhabi, we are moving MEScon to Kazakhstan to reflect the industry's diverse geography, while maintaining our core focus on technical innovation and operational excellence. The event will bring together the entire sulphur value chain, from regional producers to end-users in markets like China. A key theme will be addressing the acute logistical challenges faced by this landlocked region, a critical and constant issue for the Central Asian sulphur industry.”
