At CRU, we are proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our colleagues, especially when they combine personal challenges with a passion for making a difference. This March, we shine a spotlight on Alex Christopher, a Senior Analyst from our Aluminium team, who took on the historic Rome Marathon to support a cause close to his heart.
Alex’s goal was to raise £1,000 for Encephalitis International, but his determination and the generosity of his supporters carried him far beyond the finish line. He has raised an incredible £2,500, a figure that includes a significant contribution from CRU through our Charity Match Scheme.
A Personal Mission
For Alex, this was more than just a race; it was a personal mission. His choice of charity, Encephalitis International, stems from a deep family connection. In his own words, "this incredible organisation provided vital support to my niece when she suffered from encephalitis as a baby."
Encephalitis is a serious condition where the brain becomes inflamed, caused by an infection or through the immune system attacking the brain in error. It can have a devastating impact, with high mortality rates and the potential to cause life-altering brain injuries for survivors. Encephalitis International is dedicated to rebuilding futures by saving lives, raising awareness, and driving critical research.
CRU’s Commitment to Giving Back
CRU is delighted to support Alex's initiative through our Charity Match Scheme, reflecting our strong commitment to empowering employees to support the causes that matter most to them. This collective effort highlights the spirit of community and shared values that we cherish at CRU.
